World Trade Center Punta del Este Free Zone: Maldonado's first free trade zone for services
For decades, Punta del Este was synonymous with one thing: season. Three months of splendor between December and February, and then a resort town that closed its doors until the following summer. That image is now a thing of the past. On December 16, 2025, the World Trade Center (WTC) Punta del Este Free Zone, the first free trade zone for services in the department of Maldonado, was inaugurated, and with it, a fundamental change was consolidated: the city ceased to be just a vacation destination and became a place to live, work, and invest year-round.
